Leeds Hospitals Charity

The trustees are pleased to report a grant award to Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Leeds Hospitals Charity is the official charity for Leeds Teaching Hospitals. The hospitals in Leeds provide care for people from across Yorkshire, including York. Leeds Children’s Hospital alone offers 28 areas of specialist paediatric care, a highly specialised congenital cardiac service, one of only three UK paediatric liver transplant centres, bone marrow and kidney transplant centres, and the largest neonatal unit in the UK. If a child from York, for example, needs a transplant or specialist cardiac care, they will receive this in Leeds.

In relation to adult care, they are the regional centre for Neurosciences, which includes spinal surgery, neurosurgery and stroke. Leeds provides specialist cardiac services and the largest service for treating heart attacks in the country. It is a centre of specialised surgery including hand surgery, which forms the basis of this application. The Leeds Cancer Centre provides some of the most advanced treatment and care for patients with cancer anywhere in the world. Adults from York and the surrounding areas benefit from all these specialist services.

The grant help fund a new state-of-the-art rehabilitation system, the PrimusRS, to transform patient rehabilitation at Leeds Teaching Hospital’s Hand Surgery & Rehabilitation Unit. This highly specialist equipment is not provided by the NHS.
