The Trustees are pleased to report a grant award to Door 84.
Door 84 aims are to engage the local community and provide an inspiring youth provision for local and city wide residents. Since re-opening in March 2011, over 1000 young people have registered from 39 different schools across York. The Youth provision provides the young people accessible interactive activities in a stimulating environment that encourages personal and social development.
Door 84 has developed into a Community Hub, supporting local organisations and community projects along with hosting 2 large community events per year which attract over 500 residents from the surrounding area.
The Charity has also delivered a community project, “Community Sparks” for the last 6 years. This application is being made to help support and fund this project.
The main beneficiaries of this project are adults in the York area who, due to e.g. learning difficulties or physical disabilities, are vulnerable. In past consultations, the most common issues that people said they experience are: mental ill health, unemployment, learning difficulties/disabilities and physical disabilities. These challenges obviously have an impact on their whole lives, but are particularly damaging to their confidence and self-esteem, with members struggling to feel comfortable in social situations
