The Trustees are pleased to report a grant award to the Railway Children.
In 2017/18 British Transport Police dealt with over 8,000 child safeguarding incidents on the rail network and this year that number is anticipated to increase to 10,000. A third of children identified had run away from home or care; other issues included sexual exploitation, abuse, addiction, poor mental health and suicide.
The Yorkshire project will support children referred from BTP who have been identified as being at vulnerable and at risk within a 40-mile radius of Leeds station, this includes Doncaster, Sheffield, York and Bradford- all of which are in the top 20 stations with the highest number of child safeguarding incidents in the UK.
