The Trustees are pleased to report a grant award to the Hagge Woods Trust.
The grant will allow schools from the inner York area to offset the cost of coach hire required to take children on an educational trip to the woods.
Hagge Woods Trust provides an open-access site to Three Hagges Wood-Meadow just off the A19 between Escrick and Riccal, giving visitors the opportunity to experience native woodland . The wood-meadow is still in its infancy but already a beautiful place to visit with 29 species of native tree and shrub and over 200 species of native wildflower and grasses recorded over the 25-acre site. Schoolchildren and members of the community planted 40% of the 10,000 trees. The support of a growing team of Volunteers from throughout the area is invaluable.
The Hagge Woods Trust hold public events to encourage learning, enjoyment and citizen science. Annual Discovery Days, moth breakfasts, bat and small mammal nights have been successful, with individuals and families from around York and surrounding area attending to find out more about our natural heritage.
HWT runs an Education Programme for schools, with resources and course material linked to the National Curriculum in Key Stages 1 & 2. Schools can visit for free or pay to have our Education Officer guide a session with learning aids and facilities in place to assist their learning
